Roscoe's April Report

from CARE to Little Lotus Hearts

Greetings Little Lotus Hearts family!

It is another sleepy morning at CARE.  Dawn is wonderful in the Spring: not too hot and not too cold.  The grass is turning green, along with the trees.  We don’t have a lot of flowers, because Angel and Ridgley (CARE’s 14-year-old axis deer) tend to eat any effort made on a flower garden!

Oh, I almost forgot all the birds chirping.  They fly into my enclosure sometimes. You know if one enters my fence they are fair game.  Fortunately for them, I am accustomed to captivity.  Hunting is not one of my strong points.

Angel and Ridgley aren't afraid of their toothsome neighbors and spend their days grazing and roaming freely.
Angel and Ridgley wonder why they're getting their pictures taken!
Naps all around.
Food is the way into this little deer's heart. Intern quarters are a promising location that gets checked out several times a day.

Ahem! Enough about those two. Back to the cats.... Here I am being silly, hamming it up for the interns, Rachel and Jami, when they bring me my breakfast in the morning.

They don't know I know that it contains my daily medicine. I eat it anyway without fuss, because that's the kind of guy I am.

Well okay, sometimes I fuss when they try to take away my food before I think I am done eating it. They say it's to keep my enclosure clean. Sometimes I prefer to let my meals linger over a couple days though....

Speaking of enclosures, Tawney and I are staying in Arctic's right now, because ours is undergoing renovations.

Hanson Pre-Cast Concrete of Grand Prairie, Texas have donated over 20 new concrete houses, and I am getting one of them! I'm very excited.

This is the waterfall in Arctic's enclosure, which I fell into (Tawney may have pushed me!) a few days ago. We are not speaking right now.

I have an update on my friend Tess, who was hoping to be adopted, like I have been by Little Lotus Hearts these last two years.

Rachael Watson, of Sunset, Texas, is now Tess' regular visitor and companion! Rachael works at a nearby AT&T store. Congrats to them both!

Did you know Tess is on Facebook? Now I have to share my laptop with her, which is a real pain, because she leaves claw marks on the keys and spends hours playing Wordscraper! Do you play? Start a game with her! Here is her profile.

Until next time, happy spring!

P.S. This is a lovely time of year to visit Texas!

P.P.S. Here is CARE's latest newsletter.
